我之所以确信崇高是人性的本能，乃因在许多灾难面前，恰恰是一些最普通的人，其人性的升华达到了最令人感怀的高度。

4等级真相

不论是飞机、轮船、火车，或是任何有头等、二等、三等之分的场合，都不要做二等客。最好，自然是做头等客，做不了头等，干脆做三等，倒也有心安理得之乐，做二等客是最糟糕的一种处境。
二等客或者會以为比三等客高出一等，其实大谬不然，三等客反而瞧不起二等客：你有本事，早就是头等客了，在我面前神气什么……而在头等客面前，二等客自然就矮了一截，头等客反倒会对三等客客气些。因为本来就已经是三等，三等客没有什么可失去的。不像二等客，到不了头等，又怕到三等去，只好战战兢兢，唯唯诺诺。头等客、二等客、三等客，当然是一种寓言，想来读者诸君，心中都明白的。
而一个人，不论等级多么高，只要他心中还在念念不忘升级，这个人的等级，始终还是低了一级或许多级。只有当他自然而然地觉得，不必再在等级上企求什么时，他自然而然就到了最高的等级。
不企求升级，自然等级最高。这是许多说来简单做起来极难的事情之一。
